Hey I'm Matt, a beta tester
who wants to make the internet a better place.
How it's done
I will immerse myself in your world, industry and target audience. We'll discuss framework, goals, budget, timeframe.
The hunt begins here. I will run rigorous exploratory tests to identify and document potential bugs and other issues.
Once the test is complete, I will gather all my findings into a meticulous report and send it over to you.
Need more details?
I will test your website, app, new feature or platform prior to launch, to identify any functional, visual and content bugs you don’t want your target audience to see.
With my experience as an Internet Analyst and Brand Manager, I will put myself in the shoes of your target consumer and explore all paths of your platform, following my solid home-made process.
It means you will have someone dissecting your platform with a marketing and internet analyst mind, who understands the power of branding and how to replicate the target user’s behavior.
My testing scope:
Exploratory testing (including functional, usability / UX and performance)
Branding and layout analysis
Thorough bug report (PDF + Excel)
Improvement suggestions
Competitor analysis
Follow up call
Video reporting (optional)
Proofreading in English and French (optional)
I run an exploratory type of testing. This means I design and execute my test simultaneously. To me, this is the best way to cover as much ground as possible. I am open to scripted scenarios if you wish.
Here is my home-made testing process:
STEP 1: BRIEF & PRODUCT IMMERSION
- Brief from client.
- Agree on specific areas or product-wide testing, budget and timeline.
- Analysis of the product, its purpose and market.
- Dive into the target user’s mind.
STEP 2: CORE BETA TESTING
- Going through all the core paths to purchase of the target customer.
- Detecting Functional, Visual and Content bugs.
- Assessing their severity (light, medium, high and showstopper).
STEP 3: SECONDARY BETA TESTING
- Running beta testing on less common users paths (e.g newsletter signup, blog, external links, footer section…).
STEP 4: USABILITY & DEVICE CHECK
- Analyze where to improve the user’s journey from a functionality and layout aspect.
- Cross-browser and cross-device testing.
STEP 5: BRANDING ASSESSMENT
- Dissect the overall branding and communication materials, suggest any watchouts and areas of improvements.
STEP 6: SEO ANALYSIS (bonus)
- Run an SEO analysis to identify key areas to improve overall search engine ranking (depending on current product stage).
STEP 7: REPORT SENT TO CLIENT
- Detailed PDF + condensed Excel docs.
- Video reporting (screen recording and voice over) optional.
- Possibility of video call to run through the report.
Packages:
BASIC (40€) will get you a 20 minutes test + exhaustive report, which will usually cover the main user journeys. It takes about 2.5h in total.
STANDARD (80€) offers a 1h platform testing + 4 to 5h spent verifying and capturing each bugs, redacting an exhaustive report including suggestions.
TAILORED option if you have special requests.
Prefer fixed budget?
We can agree on a maximum budget and I will adjust my methodology accordingly.
Let’s say you have a budget of 250€ to test a 100 pages e-commerce website. That is roughly 8.5 hours of testing.
I would therefore adjust my process to focus on core beta testing (complete homepage/main subpages functionalities, main user flows, paths-to-purchase testing, showstopper issues, common devices simulation…) to ensure that no matter what, you won’t lose sale or users when the website is launched because of a functionality issue .
Optional
Proofreading: Need to proofread your website? I charge 0.015€ per word.
Why charging separately from testing? Well, proofreading is a discipline of its own and would interfere with the organic nature of the beta testing process.
Video Reporting: For an additional 30€, I will edit screen recordings and voice-over to show you all the bugs and suggestions I may have. This is a great way to display more complex bugs on top of the written reports.
A hunt for bugs.
Beta testing is the best chance to find bugs and usability issues before a product is fully released.
It provides thorough feedback about the usability, user experience and identifies issues by assessing the way target users would interact with your product.
There are many types of testing, each with their own strengths. They can involve a complete exploration of the product, running scripted scenarios or be exploratory (which for me is the one that will allow to better behave like a genuine user).
Beta testing can be done by brand advocates, consumers or professional testers.
Benefits:
Allows for testing in real life environment.
Detect bugs before users do.
Test and improve user experience.
Experiment ideas in a controlled environment.
Save on budget by getting feedback before launch.
“To tell somebody that they’re wrong is called criticism.
To do so professionally is called testing.”
